Digitising collections - UTS Library staff visit the State archives

A group of UTS Library staff recently visited State Records New South Wales (NSW) for tour of the Western Sydney Records Centre (WSRC) facilities and repository. The day provided a wonderful opportunity for UTS Library staff to hear more about the State archives approach to preserving their collection – both in digital and paper formats.

Although ATSIDA aims to work with researchers to manage ‘born digital’ materials produced in the research lifecycle, we sometimes acquire collections that require digitisation. Being actively involved in conversations with other librarians and archivists about standards and best practice with digitisation is important for the UTS Library and ATSIDA. The visit gave the UTS team a chance to learn more about the facilities, equipment and processes used in the digitisation process at SRNSW.

Thank you to SRNSW staff for providing the opportunity for our team to visit the WSRC and hear more about your vast collection. Our visit included a tour of the reading room, the digitisation and conservation labs, the repository and the newly established Digital Archives.
